Kim's Grad Party

Kim has been one of my best friends since high school and is finally growing up and taking a big girl job in Baltimore. We are so sad to see her go...we were spoiled with her being in Kansas City for a week with us and realized how much we miss having her around all the time!

Kim has been such a blessing and encouragement to me and I am so thankful that she is in my life. We are excited to see the plans God has in store for her and the ways He is going to use her to touch young college students lives in Maryland through her personal relationship with Christ. Kim is so wise, talented, and driven. This school is very lucky to have her on their staff! We will be praying for you Kim and always looking forward to your visits home!

Learnin' from a Pro

July 4th

I know, I know, I'm not the most consistent blogger, but at least I am getting some pics up now!

These were taken from our neighborhood parade on the fourth of July. It was AMAZING! There were probably around 75 kids with their bikes, scooters, mowers, four-wheelers, and strollers all decked out for this fun occasion! The best part was our neighborhood had someone that dressed in full gear and played a bagpipe lead the way! Sam LOVED it! When it was over there was a covered tint with lots of food and drinks so it was a great way for Jon and I to meet all the other neighbors. We are so thankful for this house and have been so blessed by all the great people we have met here. Hope you enjoy the pics!

Brother from another Mother

Jax and Sam. Sam and Jax. Mandy and I just don't know what to do with ourselves when we get our boys together. It's amazing the competitiveness that these two boys already have with each other! Regardless of the playtime, they do always leave each other with a few kisses...(Dads don't really approve of that one though) We do know that they will be best friends eventually. We are forcing it! Just kidding...kinda :)

Sick in July???

We have really had a rough week, but things are looking up for the Akins family! Sam had a double ear infection, high fever, and reaction to his amoxicilin this past week and Dad came down with strep throat! I decided to pack up and stay with my parents for a few days to keep Sam and the baby in my tummy free from Dad's sickness.

Jon and Sam were feeling much better this weekend and we really had a blast having some great quality family time. It doesn't happen too often were it is just the three of us spending time together and doing new things. Jon and I have been so amazed lately watching Sam discover all the joys of life. We took him to Cabela's and Legends on Sunday and he just couldn't keep his hands still because there were so many new things to point at! I was sad that our camera was dead...there would have been so many great pics of his fun expressions!

Here are a few updates of the fun things Sam is doing and saying these days:

Words: (he basically attempts to repeat everything these days, but these are the ones most can understand)
-mom
-dad
-dog
-hat, hot, hi (they all sound somewhat the same, but he knows the difference)
-no,no,no
-ball
-please
-bye,bye
-animal noises
-monkey,dog,cat,lion,elephant,snake,horse

-Sam loves to show you his tongue
-Blink...we learned this from Jax and it's hilarious. I will try to get a video clip up soon
-he is pretending all the time! He will grab something off the floor and give it to me. Sometimes he takes a bite out of it or puts it back...it will keep him entertained for quite sometime!
-He can point to most of his body parts and loves to pat his tummy
-He helps clean up his spills
-Loves to throw things away...not just trash though, still working on that one!
-He would read for hours before bedtime if I would let him. He has really done great sitting still and listening. He probably knows it's prolonging going to sleep!
-Of course, he still loves to bust a move! Just ask him to "raise the roof" next time you see him!

These are just a few of the highlights of our days!

Baby Update: We had a sonogram last week and everything looked great! They said this was an extremely active baby! We think it was just doing some of the aerobic moves mommy does in class!

I have to be monitored more closely due to protein in my urine. So far, everything has checked out okay and it will be reassuring for Jon and I to get weekly updates anyway! My tummy is growing and I haven't been sick for one week now! That's a record, by the way!

I'll try to post new pics soon! Thanks for checking in!
